Viral dashcam footage shows the moment a Texas man flashed a gun at another driver who honked at him, prompting his arrest by Texas authorities.
On Nov. 15, officers with the Socorro Police Department responded to a residence where a victim provided footage of a man flashing a gun while both were driving in the 10800 block of North Loop Drive. Socorro is just southeast of El Paso on the Mexican border.
The victim's video shows them honk at a driver ahead of him, who is hesitating to merge into his lane. The red Nissan then merges and pulls ahead, only to stop and let the car with the dash cam pass. As the car passes, the Nissan's driver waves a handgun at the other driver.
"Hey Siri, call 911," the driver says, utilizing Apple's voice-controlled assistant to call police.
Popular Texas Instagram account FitFamElPaso shared the footage, writing that "road rage is real." The post garnered over 660,000 views and 24,000 likes from users who were less than surprised by the driver's audacity.
The viral spread of the video helped lead to identifying the driver as 39-year-old Luis Carrasco, Socorro police said in a release.
On Dec. 13, authorities carried out a traffic stop on Carrasco, and he admitted to being the driver who flashed the gun in the video. He was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with bail set at $30,000.
"The Socorro Police Department encourages residents to report suspicious activities and utilize available technology, such as dash cams, to assist in crime prevention and resolution," the department said.
